Who is Congregation Beit Shalom?

Congregation Beit Shalom / Monroe Township is a unique Conservative Egalitarian Congregation. The difference between this and other congregations is that we are truly a family. We get together to pray, to learn, to laugh, to sing, to schmooze - and it is 100% VirJEWal. When someone is in need, we help each other in ways that continue to inspire everyone.

Shabbat Noah:
Torah: Gen. 6.9-11.32.
Ashkenazi Haftorah: Isaiah 54.1-55.5
Sephardi Haftorah: Isaiah 54.1-10

This Sidra tells of the destruction of sin in humans and the rebirth of civilization. It appears that through the flood, G-d attempts to recreate humans with a righteous ancestor as the beginning point. Unfortunately, humankind does not respond in kind as Noach leaves his ark only to immediately allow drunkenness to consume him. As a result, Noach’s son mocks him. The descendants of Noach build a Tower in Bavel as a feeble attempt to conquer G*d and they go away babbling. Ironically, warfare and turbulence result from what looks like a failed G**dly attempt at creating a totally virtuous humanity.

It is not until the end of this Sidra when we see a glimmer of hope by meeting Avram. It seems goodness in humans cannot be created if it is to endure, it must be developed. To endure, goodness must be nurtured and passed down “L’dor Va’dor”, from parent to child through every generation.

Message: Be a “Mensch” - pass it on.
